Author, Judaism Disrupted: A Spiritual Manifesto for the 21st Century
This week, Ira spoke with Rabbi Michael Strassfeld, author of Judaism Disrupted: A Spiritual Manifesto for the 21st Century (published by Ben Yehuda Press). In this Judaic episode of “Ira’s Everything Bagel,” Michael talks about how he believes Judaism has a lot to offer in making use of the precious gift that humans have, which is life; why he wrote the book and why Judaism disrupts by bringing goodness into our lives so we can live them to the utmost; why you can face challenges in life with wisdom; dealing with the “inner” frontier; and how his first principle is that we are all created in the image of God.
Michael has served the Jewish community for more than five decades, in numerous capacities, including as an educator, writer, editor, rabbi, and community leader. He is the author of Judaism Disrupted, which is being published on the 50th anniversary of his breakthrough best-seller that sold over 300,000 copies, The Jewish Catalog.
Michael, the son of a Modern Orthodox rabbi, was ordained as a rabbi more than 30 years ago by the Reconstructionist Rabbinical College. He served as rabbi for a decade at Congregation Ansche Chesed and for 14 years as rabbi for The Society for the Advancement of Judaism.
