Digital Marketing Manager, Knife Center host of its YouTube Channel
This week, Ira spoke with David C. Andersen, Digital Marketing Manager of Knife Center and host of Knife Center’s YouTube Channel. In this cutting episode of Ira’s Everything Bagel, David talks about the primal connection of humankind and knife; how he grew up with a pocket knife given to him by his dad (which he still has); why he invented the canteen knife; misconceptions of knives; how he maintains his passion for knives; why the Swiss Army knives are the common ground for most people; what he presents on the Knife Center’s YouTube Channel; and the satisfaction he gets from presenting knives of all kinds and the questions he gets from viewers.
David C. Andersen’s introduction to pocket knives came at an early age. He has carried a blade ever since earning his Totin' Chip as a Boy Scout.
In 2014, David began writing for The Truth About Knives (TTAK), one of the most widely read knife blogs on the internet up until it was acquired years later. The blog allowed him to meet and learn from some of the biggest names in the industry, including Ethan Becker (of Becker Knife & Tool and Joy of Cooking fame) and L.T. Wright.
In 2016, David formed Nordsmith Knives. His inaugural design, the Canteen Knife, was the product of many years of refinement… his vision for a camp/cooking crossover knife that had not previously existed.
In 2018 as TTAK was sold to new ownership, David transitioned to a full-time career in the knife industry with Knife Center, the first-ever online knife retailer, launched in 1995. As their Digital Marketing Manager, he took on the hosting responsibilities of their YouTube channel, and has grown the subscriber base from roughly 20,000 to more than 182,000 at the end of February 2022.
